In Vietnamese, Ba Noi is the Grandma from the father’s side of the family.
My grandmother, Cuc, died on March 15th, 2008. With ten children and twenty-six grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she lived a well, long life. Before, I planned a project for her to tell all of her stories and to record them. Unfortunately, I never got that chance.Instead, I will be sharing the various stories that grandma has shared with me, and ones that I have experienced with her. I will also be working on bringing back her garden. I truly hope this will help me cope with my loss, and to share those memories with others, to make them laugh and to smile. I hope some of you will share also.
Name: Cuc
Favorite Color: Blue
Favorite TV Shows: Anything with animals.
She used to hate watching snakes, but she actually got used to seeing them.
Favorite Ice Cream: Haagin Daz Coffee Flavored
Favorite Past-time: Gardening, praying.

Great idea Diana. Grandma’s memory will live on forever and it’s awesome to read these stories. Hopefully we’ll have lots of stories to tell.

Thank you for putting this up Diana, it is very thoughtful. Although it may be difficult to deal with the fact grandma is no longer with us, this is a great opportunity for us to celebrate her life and remember all the wonderful things about her. It’s refreshing to hear about your individual experience with her so thank you for that. I hope that everyone will share a little bit about their own experience. Here is a little bit of mine….
Grandma and T.V.
I remember as a child watching quite a bit of TV with her. The shows that we used to love watching together were “I Love Lucy” and “The Price is Right”.
Whenever we watched “The Price is Right” she used to yell at the contestants on T.V. and tell them how “ngu” (stupid) they were for guessing the wrong number or price. Hahaha!
We would also watch all the crazy situations that Lucy would get into on “I Love Lucy”. Whether it was her stomping grapes, stuffing chocolates in her mouth, or putting too much soap in the washing machine, we used to laugh and laugh. It still brings a smile to my face. =)

After reading the stories and the personal experiences each of you had with grandma, it has further enlightened my thoughts and strengthens my already strong love for our amazing grandma.
I can clearly remember living with her as she raised Peter and I, while my dad had to work two jobs to make ends meet being a single father raising two boys. Like Elizabeth and Diana mentioned in their testimonial, she loved to cook and made sure we had plenty of food to eat and enjoyed nurturing her garden as we played in the backyard eating those juicy dark purple plums when it was the perfect time of the year! I know this sounds cliché, but as I am typing this, it feels like it was only yesterday as we were with her in her garden.
On a deeper and personal level, I can honestly say that she unconditionally loved me despite of my circumstance. With both arms wide opened, as her grandson runs to hug his loving grandma!
Our grandma is truly the pinnacle of all mothers and she will be greatly missed, but knowing that she is finally with grandpa in heaven, both watching over their love ones, is a comfortable feeling knowing that she is still with us.
I Love you grandma!
